Frequently asked questions
Does MP3 to FLAC improve audio quality?+
No. The original MP3 compression artefacts are preserved in the FLAC container. You are losslessly compressing already-lossy audio. The FLAC will decode to identical audio as the MP3 — the only difference is the container format and slightly different file size.
Why would I convert MP3 to FLAC?+
Common reasons: a hardware device or software library only accepts FLAC; you want format consistency in an otherwise all-FLAC archive; a system requires lossless format metadata even when the source is lossy. It is not for quality improvement — it is for format compatibility.
Will the file be larger than the original MP3?+
Usually slightly larger, since FLAC compression is optimised for PCM audio and the decoded MP3 samples are more random than recorded audio. A 320 kbps MP3 at 60 MB may become a 70–80 MB FLAC. The difference is small.
Privacy first
All audio processing runs locally in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. No file is ever uploaded — only metadata counters are saved for signed-in dashboard stats.
