Frequently asked questions
Does extracting audio from a video reduce audio quality?+
When the video contains an AAC or MP3 audio stream, stream-copy extraction is lossless — the audio bytes are copied directly without re-encoding. Converting to MP3 from AAC involves one generation of lossy encode. For archival quality, extract to WAV or keep the original AAC from the container.
What video formats are supported?+
JAD accepts MP4 (H.264, H.265), MOV (ProRes, H.264), MKV (any codec), WebM (VP8, VP9, AV1), AVI (MPEG-4, DivX), and most common containers. The audio stream must be in a compatible codec — AAC, MP3, AC3, FLAC, Opus, Vorbis, and WAV are all supported.
Can I extract specific time ranges of audio from a video?+
Yes — use the audio trimmer after extraction to cut to your desired time range, or use the lossless trimmer tool on the video file before extraction to cut the video to the desired segment first.
Privacy first
All audio processing runs locally in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. No file is ever uploaded — only metadata counters are saved for signed-in dashboard stats.
