Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between dual-mono and true stereo?+
Dual-mono copies the identical signal to both left and right channels — it is stereo format but has no stereo width. True stereo has different content in the left and right channels, creating a spatial image. Widening algorithms (Haas delay, mid-side processing) can add some apparent stereo width to mono sources.
Will converting mono to stereo make my audio sound better?+
The underlying mono audio quality does not improve. It only adds stereo format compatibility. On full stereo speaker systems, a dual-mono file sounds centred and flat. The optional Haas effect adds a perception of width but at the cost of slight comb-filtering when summed back to mono.
Why does my podcast app say my episode is mono even after converting?+
Some podcast apps detect effective mono content (left and right channels identical) even in stereo containers. Confirm your stereo file was saved as 2-channel in the file header — a true dual-mono file should register as stereo in any media player's channel count indicator.
Privacy first
All audio processing runs locally in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. No file is ever uploaded — only metadata counters are saved for signed-in dashboard stats.
