How to pixelate a region of video before use as legal evidence
- Step 1Drop your video and select the region — Drop your video and define the rectangle + time range
- Step 2Choose redaction style and time range — JAD applies boxblur over that region for the specified seconds
- Step 3Export the redacted video — Download the redacted video
Frequently asked questions
Can I redact multiple regions in a single export?+
Yes — you can add multiple redaction boxes to a single export pass. Each box can have its own position, size, style, and optional time range. JAD renders all regions simultaneously in one encode pass, so processing time is the same whether you have one or ten redaction regions.
Can I make the redaction follow a moving object?+
Static region redaction applies the box at a fixed pixel position for the specified time range. If the object moves significantly across the frame, use the face blur or face pixelate tools which include per-frame detection and tracking. Alternatively, add overlapping static regions that cover the object's movement path.
What format should I export the redacted video in?+
MP4 with H.264 is the recommended output for maximum compatibility. If you need to preserve quality for further editing, export as ProRes or use a high-quality CRF setting (CRF 15–18). The redaction process is a full re-encode so you control all quality parameters at export time.
